NaPoWriMo (# 11): Dear daughter…

Your palm once so little..
now sure likes to scribble.
Lullaby that made you calm..
has now lost its charm.
You wanted me, everywhere you tread..
Now look at you , you have raced ahead.
Oh, how much I miss those days..
When mommy’s lap was your safest place!
Oh, how much I want to turn time back..
When you slept snuggled on my neck!
Now you grow and a new world you explore..
Come back for a minute to rest…
Because now it is me who needs you, my baby, more and more..

NaPoWriMo (# 10): I am a woman..

 I am her incarnation,
Goddess Lakshmi.
The Goddess of wealth and prosperity.
the One you  invoke during adversity…
But me, you trade…
My very being, you degrade.
You taint my soul, call me a whore..
I am her incarnation,
Goddess Saraswati,
The Goddess of wisdom and enlightenment.
The One you seek, when your knowledge is all spent..
But me, you repress…
My imagination, you suppress.
You curb me, do not let me soar…
I am her incarnation ,
Goddess Uma, Goddess Parvati.
Goddess of birth and fertility.
The One you pray for your virility..
But in my hurt, a pleasure you derive..
Make it tough for me to survive.
You abort me in womb, though your sons I bore..
But I am also her incarnation,
Goddess Durga,
Mahishasurmardini…
The Goddess who kills demons..
Yes, I am a woman,
I nurture and for your well-being I pray..
Remember though, the demon in you ,
I can slay!!

NaPoWriMo (# 7): Love is in the air..

The peacocks are prancing around strutting their blues and  greens,
cavorting and wooing.
Bees flirt with blooms, savoring the intoxicating nectar,
buzzing, drinking and dancing.
Birds hurry around squabbling for a twig,
singing,chirping and nesting.
All the birds and bees,
 heralding the spring, inviting love.
She smiled coyly at this amorous display, wondering.
Why was her little heart palpitating??

The NaPoWriMo challenge for day 7 was to write a poem with all lines as a complete statement but the last one must be a question…. I hope I have correctly attempted this challenge.

NaPoWriMo (# 6): She

The orthodox dungeons
did let her fly…
she scaled heights…
she rejoiced the freedom…
But..
she failed to see..
the hidden strings!!
And as she tried to soar..
higher …
she choked….
She had forgotten..
Her world was
a man’s world !!
And she was a woman…
A bird with clipped wings!!

A lot of women have been in some or the other way suppressed by men in their life. Many Indian girls have been  stopped from receiving higher education, follow their dreams, speak out their mind. Instead they have been always reminded of small freedoms and told to be thankful for the same. They are still considered less than the male siblings even if they are more brainy. This poem shows the plight of such women.

NaPoWriMo (# 5): Turning Forty….

Today he turns forty!
Really??
Age to be naughty….???
He asks…
“Should I now ,
color my hair,
to look more dapper?
or let it be as it is,
Salt and Pepper?”
“Should I let,
my belly be,
Or do you prefer
a fitter me?”
I look at him,
and I look at me…
I still see ..
the younger us!!
Only…
A little grey here
A little plump there..
A little more grumpy,
A little more fussy..
But nothing’s really changed–
We still love each other
We still pester each other…
So I smile and say..
“You look just fine”
“That is why I love you”
Thus says he.
Lifting me up,
With a twinkle in his eyes,
he says…
“Lets Celebrate..
I am allowed to be naughty,
Why, I just turned forty!!”

My husband turned forty today and between all the baking and cooking for his birthday celebration , I managed to write this poem as today’s entry.

NaPoWriMo (# 4): A New Beginning…

The gentle breeze,
softly caresses…
rippling the placidity..
blown away are the cobwebs
memories resurface…
a long-lost smile
soothes the  aching heart..
The tiny droplets,
rejuvenate, invigorate…
the parched soul..
a ray of hope…
heals the age-old wounds..
Life  starts afresh!!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Lunchtime

I know I am very late for this post….the whole week is almost over! To be honest I had lost interest in weekly photo challenges because I observed that I was not writing any thing else and whole week went off waiting for a new photo challenge and the comments from fellow bloggers. Though it was fun…in fact some good bloggers boosted my spirits by nominating many awards  and that was soooooooo satisfying ! But I was not getting new visitors…..that was making me seriously doubt my writing ability. And so I stopped participating. However, a few months back a mail from eof737 asking about my well-being and the concern made me feel perked up (thank you so much “eof737”) . I realized that by not writing I was not only loosing out on some probably new visitors but also the ones who were reading my blog!! Now I am again trying to reach out to bloggers old and new with this weekly photo challenge.

Lunchtime is one such event at our home when the three of us are seldom together….my daughter does not come back from school till around 2:30 p.m, my husband has no fixed time of returning home from work. All of us eat at our own convenient times. Today was one of the rare times when all of us sat down at dining table and had lunch together. Even our dog “Buddy” stretched down near the table content  that all were at home and safe!

The lunch menu was simple regular home-made food : dal (lentil gravy), paneer-simla mirch(capsicum and cottage cheese), bathua raita (plain home-made curd or yoghurt with white-goosefoot/pigweed leaves), chapati/roti (indian wheat bread) and basmati rice. Though  there was nothing out of the ordinary in the menu but it became special because we all were at home!

I am fairly good cook and quite proud that I can cook not only Indian food but can manage a few of the Chinese, Italian, Mexican and Thai recipes too! I like watching all food channels ( and I am myself surprised because a decade back I loathed kitchen and all chopping and cutting and forever upset my mom!). But taking advantage of the photo challenge today I am posting not only the photos but also the recipe..

Heat 2tbsp oil in a wok. Cook onion till transparent. Add tomatoes, 1/2 tsp turmeric and ground red pepper powder and one slit green chilly. When the oil starts separating add capsicum.  Once the capsicum softens add cottage cheese, salt and garam masala. Garnish with fresh coriander and serve!

Garnish with this butter and cumin  and chopped fresh coriander.

2013-03-21-115

Knead the flour to make soft pliable dough with water and apply oil. Make small rounds and with the help of a rolling-pin make a 6 inch flat  thin disc . Roast on hot plate. Serve hot with clarified butter.

Today’s lunch was quite satisfying and I look forward to more such lunches with the family…

Weekly Photo Challenge: Unique

“Each of us is a unique strand in the intricate web of life and here to make a contribution.”
Some say there are about seven people in the whole world who look similar ……but that is all it is! We are even different from our own parents, siblings…we do not even have same set of fingerprints. Each one of us is a different entity in the whole world. And, except the genetic hand-me-downs, each one of us has a different view of life, opinions, visions , aspirations, dreams, characters, destinations, destinies, plans to reach the goals……
As a child we begin our life as an unique living being and it is our duty to leave a mark…..good or bad. Every child has a unique innocence, appeal and expectation from the adults around them. Each child can be relieved in a specific and unique way of the fears and apprehensions….
A little girl
And, as the fears wane a unique peace surrounds which shows in the shining eyes and bright smiles of these innocent children…….

Only when we are happy and feel proud to be a unique human being then our mind creates a unique world where there is love, peace, equality, compassion and humanity… We build unique bridges to erase the difference, unite the world and connect the unfortunates to a world of opportunity……

“Always remember that you are absolutely unique. Just like everyone else.”
