Gifting love…

It is at such times, during festivals, birthdays, anniversaries of near and dear ones, that staying at far off places, which are not conveniently connected to rest of the cities, hurts the most. You miss out on so many occasions of getting together with friends and family, on fun and quality time spent together…..

Due to work, I am staying in a small town in Tamilnadu among people who do not speak the language I do, do not celebrate the festivals I do and because of the language barrier I have not been really able to forge a strong friendship either. In all, the only interaction I have with locals is for small talk… a smile, a hello or for asking directions. I miss my friends and family terribly.

The only thing that I can do to let my loved ones know that they are being missed and remembered is call them up often and send them gifts on their special occasions. Thank God for technology….not only can we stay connected with chats, social media but also surf for that perfect gifts on-line and get those delivered anywhere in the country.

When I search for gifts, I am biased towards handicrafts and home décor. My obvious choice for a go-to site for my kind of stuff is CraftsVilla. This is one portal which is a storehouse of Indian handicrafts that are both reasonably priced and appealing to the eye. They have a variety of items from paintings, wooden, metal and fancy photo-frames to painted and enamelled vases, mirrors, candles, clocks and many more….

That reminds me, mother’s day just around the corner. She has insisted on a CV-MTHE_75880156990-Home_Decor-The_Woods_Hut-Craftsvilla_1complete family photograph with me, my sister, our husbands, kids and ‘nan-nani’ for her dining room wall. It would be a pleasant surprise for her to receive it framed beautifully….I think this might be just the right one as it goes with her home decor too….

Portal has lot of home decor stuff including furniture. In fact the whole house can be beautifully decorated from home decor section of the portal. Don’t believe me…? Go check it out yourself….

A Room to Relax-Read

relax readRelax-reading is so so different than studying …… And that means no boring study table, table lamp, pens, geometry instruments, maps, history books ….and what not!! Relax read is just that …..read to relax or chill relax and read!

I have been planning to redo the look of my home space to surprise my husband. I found a wonderful site http://makemyhome.com/ for furniture, furnishings and accessories.

I did finalise some of the stuff  to add a zest to my home but I failed to notice my daughter’s pout and sulking face while net surfing for things for our bedroom! Having satisfied myself with things for bedroom, I turned to her in excitement only to see her much annoyed. And the reason for annoyance… why I did not plan to redo her room….thats what!!

Now that was unfair I realised so again we logged in at http://makemyhome.com/ to choose decor things for her relax-reading area….. honestly speaking, an awkward niche in the house actually! I had always wanted to change that area but was always left wondering as to how to go about it. Suddenly this bright idea lit up like a 100 watt bulb, to paint or wallpaper it with some bold colored furniture as accessory.

I made my little princess have a run through the idea. She is quite happy now that mommy dear has given in to her demand to redo her corner as well. What we both agreed upon was the Casual style for the little niche with a bright red bean bag with an extra cushion (which she can hold on to if she so feels like it!!….Her choice!)

The idea looked somewhat like this:

reading corner

With the theme and idea finalised, I have decided to go with  three gorgeous things from the site:

Now when we redo our Bedroom in September, we will redecorate the little reading corner and who knows not only my daughter but also my husband will enjoy a quiet reading of their favorite book in the new space….

My home….my haven

….And I love introducing small exciting twists and turns in our story of fifteen years of married life. Yes! I will be celebrating my fifteenth wedding anniversary this year in October.

We fell in love when I was just about finishing my college and he was commissioned as an officer in the Indian Air Force. Our first home where the story of our marriage began was in Srinagar in a small two bedroom house. My husband told me that we would buy stuff to decorate our home once we were posted out of Srinagar. So I made that small house my home with whatever little stuff we had….. Later with the places where we got posted to not being always comfortable and houses always of different sizes, we chose to style our abode in simple no fuss way. Gradually we started building our personal collection of curios, frames, furniture and furnishings.

We both have always loved to have neat organised home. I have mostly decorated my home in whites, off-whites and beige…….it gives a peaceful serene and relaxing look to the interiors.

But now our eleven year daughter is bored with our color choice and wants something bright and boisterous. Since the beginning of this year I too was feeling the need to add a little color and more spice in our comfortable loving relationship…..um….I felt the need to be ….lets say… “A little naughty at forty!!”(He turned forty this year!) 😉

In the armed forces there are many occasions when the family has to stay separated for some time when the husbands go for some outstation duty. This September my husband will be away from us and I will get that opportunity to have a Home Makeover with little changes to the decor of our home.

I have shortlisted few sites which would help me paint and primp my home and for those extra additions I am glad to have found the site  http://www.makemyhome.com/ . It is really a go-to site for beautiful decor items be it furniture, furnishings or other accessories.

I have thought about redoing our bedroom as a surprise for him. Retaining the color of walls as white, I am planning to go for a Contemporary style of decor. I have thought of stenciling the white wall behind the bed with little orange birds to add a dash of color in the room and along with that three  additions :

The bedroom set will brighten up the room and break the monotony of white walls. I have thought of putting the glass film only on the central panel of three-panel sliding door so that the glare from sun is cut off  yet too much of orange doesn’t overpower the interiors. An aroma diffuser will be the perfect add on to relax my husband when he returns home.

Ummm….I can’t help but imagine the smile that would light up his face when he would see the changes. And I know our night will culminate beautifully with the intoxicating aroma spread in the room….
